Filmmaker Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra‘s Delhi 6 starring Abhishek Bachchan and Sonam Kapooramong others had opened to poor reviews. Despite doing a record breaking business in the first three days, the film went downhill from Monday and tanked at the box office. The filmmaker has now revealed that he was unable to cope with the failure of Delhi 6 and he had slipped deep into alcoholism.
In the latest episode of Rahman Music Sheets, Rakeysh said that the film’s failure felt like a major heartbreak. He said that he went deep into alcoholism, for almost six month after the film’s debacle, followed by huge outcry against the film.
“I just wanted to sleep and not get up. There was a spasm, a gap, which I fell into. It was like a black hole. Then one morning I woke up and realised that I got to do something about it, that I can’t just get into a Devdas mode,” he said.During this time, Rakeysh had called up his cinematographer Binodh Pradhan and shot for three days for the remaining portions of Delhi 6. There was a different beginning, ending, which they had put it together and sent the film to Europe and the Venice Film Festival had taken it. This thing somewhat completed the incompleteness in Rakeysh and it kind of healed him also.
Rakeysh is not sure whether the new version of Delhi 6 will be released on OTT because the film is not in his hands. He said that to make it happen the universe needs to conspire. Though it is also a commercial exercise, he would love to share it in the near future.
