Om Raut tried to bring the epic Ramayan to the big screen with his film ‘Adipurush‘. Next in line to retell the Hindi epic will be director Nitesh Tiwari. According to reports, he is eyeing power couple Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt to take on the roles of Lord Ram and Sita.
In an interaction with a news portal, actor Sunil Lahri, who took on the role of Laxman in Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan, expressed his reservations about Alia taking on the role of the goddess.
When asked about Ranbir and Alia being the front-runners to play the lead roles, Lahri said that they were both ‘very good actors’ and felt that they would do justice to the part. He even added that RK was a good choice to play Lord Ram as he can deliver a good performance. While sharing his thoughts on Alia’s casting, he expressed his reservations saying that while the actress is talented, he felt that she would have done justice to the role if she did it five years earlier. While insisting that it was only his personal opinion, he added that he felt that Alia has ‘changed’ and wasn’t sure about how convincing she would be as Sita.
Although there is no official announcement or confirmation about the film’s casting, the two are tipped to be the front runners for the part.

Interestingly, when Alia was recently referred to by the paparazzi as ‘Sita-ji’, she appeared confused and simply laughed at the cameramen.
According to reports, the team is expected to begin work on the film soon with the makers eyeing a release at the end of 2024 or early 2025.
