In a tragic incident, Special Deputy Collector (Handri Neeva Sujala Sraganthi Project – Phase-II) S. Rama Devi was killed on the spot and four others were injured, two of them critically, when the car carrying the officials collided head-on with another car near Sambepalle of Annamayya district on the Rayachoti-Chittoor State highway on Monday (April 07).

According to the Sambepalle police, the senior official was on her way to Rayachoti from a project site in Piler to attend Monday’s public grievance. Ms. Ramadevi was trapped inside the car, which was in a mangled condition following the collision.

Some villagers and farmers from the fields rushed to the spot and retrieved the official by deploying crowbars. However, she was declared brought dead at the Government Hospital in Rayachoti. The injured were under treatment in Rayachoti Hospital.

The tragic death of the HNSS Special Deputy Collector left the officials of district administration in a shock.

District Collector Sridhar Chamakuri cancelled the weekly grievance cell at the Collectorate and rushed to the Area Hospital. He directed the district medical and health officials to initiate all steps to provide quality medical care to the injured and shift them to Bengaluru, if required.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu expressed shock at the demise of the Special Deputy Collector, and directed the district administration to extend quality medical care to the injured in the accident.

The police registered a case and took up further investigation.

Meanwhile, Minister for Transport, Youth Affairs and Sports, Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy, expressed sorrow over the death of the senior official. He rushed to the Government Hospital here, and paid homage to the deceased officer. Mr. Reddy enquired with officials about the circumstances which led to the road mishap, and also consoled the injured persons, assuring the family members of quality medical attention.

The Annamayya District In-charge Minister, and Minister for Roads and Buildings, BC Janardhan Reddy conveyed his condolences to Ms. Rama Devi’s family members. He said that the government would stand by her family at this difficult hour.
