‘Patriot’, the spy action thriller starring Mammootty and Mohanlal, has slowed at the box office as it enters its 14th day. The film, which began with massive expectations due to the reunion of two of Malayalam cinema’s biggest stars, is now showing signs of an early wind-down in theatres. On Day 14, collections dropped to just Rs 12 lakhs and this marks one of its weakest single-day performances so far.
‘Patriot’s week two shows weak and uneven trend
According to Sacnilk, the film’s weekday earnings have fluctuated but mostly trended downward. Day 7 collected Rs 98 lakhs which was followed by Rs 71 lakhs on Day 8. Day 9 again reached Rs 98 lakhs while Day 10 slightly improved to Rs 1.07 crore.However, the momentum did not hold. Day 11 and Day 12 both dropped to Rs 47 lakhs. Day 13 further slipped to Rs 30 lakhs and the latest Day 14 figure of Rs 12 lakhs confirms continued decline.
‘Patriot’s domestic earnings slow while overseas holds firm
On the overall box office front, the film has collected Rs 31.22 crore net in India so far. The India gross currently stands at Rs 36.22 crore. Overseas markets have performed better in comparison.International territories have contributed Rs 43.25 crore. This takes the total worldwide gross to Rs 79.47 crore.The Malayalam spy thriller, which reunited Mammootty and Mohanlal after a long gap, was released on May 1. It initially opened to largely positive responses. However, audience reactions soon became mixed. Some viewers appreciated the scale and theme of the action thriller and others raised concerns about execution and pacing.
Mammootty’s remarks on mixed reactions
During a public event in Dubai, Mammootty addressed the varied audience response. As per a report by Mid-day, he said, “We are living in an era where privacy is increasingly lost, and the film Patriot addresses this relevant subject.” He also acknowledged differing opinions about the film. He said, “There will be different views—good, bad, partly good, mostly good. Everyone is free to express their opinion as they feel. Some of you may have heard such opinions before coming here. Whatever it is, you will form your own view, and that is what matters.
