Police seized around 1.3 tonnes of illegally transported beef in the northeastern parts of the city on Friday. While 900 kg of beef was recovered by the Amruthahalli police, over 400 kg was recovered by the Chikkajala police.

Upon receiving information from an NGO that beef was illegally transported into the city, the Amruthahalli police intercepted a car going towards K. R. Puram near Hebbal flyover and found the meat. The Chikkajala police found over 400 kg of beef in a car that had broken down on the road. Upon investigation, it was found that the beef was allegedly procured after slaughtering a cow in a slaughterhouse in Chikkaballapur and was being transported to Shivajinagar.

A police official said that the beef was seized as it was procured in violation of the provisions of The Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Act, 2020.

Sajith V. J., Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), North-East division, said, “Both the vehicles were not authorised to transport beef and lacked the necessary certificates from the slaughterhouses that detail the animals that were slaughtered. We arrested the driver of the car in Amruthahalli.”
