The cybercrime police have arrested two persons for allegedly sexually assaulting minor girls, recording the acts on mobile phones, and uploading them online.
The police said the case came to light after information regarding the suspected creation and dissemination of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) was received through the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP).
Based on the alert, a case was registered at Kaggalipura Police Station on May 10 under Sections 57 and 67(B) of the Information Technology Act.
During investigation, the police found that two minor girls had allegedly been exploited and videos of the abuse were recorded and uploaded online. Statements of the victims were recorded as per legal procedure.
The accused have been identified as Kiran Kumar, 29, a resident of Kaggalipura, and Aditya M.K., 20, a swimming pool maintenance worker currently residing in Channapatna taluk. The police said Aditya is originally from Shivamogga district.
Based on the victims’ statements and evidence collected, the police added Sections 65(2) and 70 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) along with Sections 4(2), 5(L), 5(M), 6, 14 and 15 of the POCSO Act, 2012.
The accused were arrested on May 12 and three mobile phones allegedly used to record the videos were seized. They were later produced before the court and taken into police custody for further investigation.
the police termed the case significant as, unlike most CSAM cases where offenders are found possessing downloaded content, this case involved the arrest of alleged creators and uploaders of abusive material.
